Versatile Cologne and Germany forward Podolski has been attracting the attention of a host of top European clubs this season, with Lazio and Arsenal among the front runners for the Polish born striker, who since returning to boyhood club Cologne from Bayern has found himself substantially less enamoured with the club and could be open to a move.
For Wenger’s part, the striker would provide some much needed cover and relief for star man RVP, who whilst prolific so far this season is the only clinical striker the Gunners currently have to rely on, and is known for being injury prone.
After the Carling Cup defeat, TalkSport report that Wenger feels that a top class striker is needed and the French man feels that Podolski – who is also able to operate on the left flank – could be the man for the job.
Wenger would however face a battle with Italian side Lazio for the forward, as the Italian side are keen to see just how much Cologne wish to hold on to their star man come the January transfer window with a sizable bid.
