da roleta: Lazio are keen to sign Dejan Lovren from Liverpool this summer, per Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness.
What’s the word?
da bet7: The Serie A club are said to be hopeful of taking the Croatia international to Italy when the transfer window opens.
The report states that the two club have good relations, meaning that there could well be an easy route to a deal for the Italian side.
Lovren’s contract expires in 2021, meaning that this could well be the last opportunity for Liverpool to receive a fee for the player.
Gazzetta are said to claim that a fee could be lower than €20m (£18.1m) in the coming window, though he is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt.
Decision time
Liverpool really need to make a decision over Lovren.
Statistically, he isn’t as terrible as his lack of appearances make out; per WhoScored, he makes more tackles per game than Virgil van Dijk, is dribbled past just 0.4 times – a lower number than both Joel Matip and Joe Gomez – while he also concedes fewer fouls than Matip and Gomez.
Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…
Jurgen Klopp, then, needs to work out if he should be handing Lovren a new contract – he is certainly an option in defence – or letting him go.
There is no point in keeping him around so he can go on a free which means decision time is looming.
If he does go, he will certainly need replacing, but at least the Reds will have fetched a fairly sufficient slither of money for his services. With that, a back-up would surely be on the cards.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans have reacted to the prospect of a potentially huge exit!
