da 888: Chelsea produced a stunningly disciplined and clinical performance to inflict a shock first defeat of the season upon reigning Premier League champions Manchester City last time out.
The Blues were compact, dogged and determined at Stamford Bridge, and the result was a timely one for Maurizio Sarri’s side who had recently been beaten by both Tottenham and Wolves.
Chelsea got back to winning ways this weekend at Stamford Bridge though, and in some style, by overcoming Pep Guardiola’s scintillating City side. A first half strike from N’Golo Kante put the hosts ahead, before they then doubled their advantage in the second period.
It was centre-back David Luiz who got the second, all-important goal – perhaps making amends for his recent dire display against Spurs, a display that was crucified by his own fans.
Not only did the 31-year-old get the goal, he also produced a fine all-round performance. He was extremely comfortable in possession – completing 49 passes, at an accuracy rating of 85.7%, he also produced six accurate long passes from nine attempts.

The 56-cap Brazil international was also defensively solid throughout, as he had to be as City attacked in waves. Luiz made two tackles, one interception, and blocked one shot. He also made seven clearances – a joint-high figure amongst all players on the pitch, equalled only by his own centre-back partner Antonio Rudiger.
Luiz also put his 6’2” frame to good use, as he won five aerial duels – more than any player on either side.
Having been so poor against Spurs, Luiz provided a timely reminder of just how good he is with his game-changing display against City.
