da premier bet: According to reports in The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are on a mission to complete a £45m deal to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha before the transfer window shuts on August 9, and their Premier League rivals Southampton must be watching developments closely.
What’s the word, then?
da betway: Well, The Sun says that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy hasn’t given up on bringing the Ivory Coast international to north London before next Thursday, even though the Eagles feel they are in a strong position having turned down an offer from Chelsea worth £30m plus midfielder Danny Drinkwater.
The Sun report that Tottenham would be prepared to offer a further £15m in add-ons plus a huge release clause in order to get their first summer deal over the line.
Should Zaha make the switch across the capital he would be competing with the likes of Erik Lamela, Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura, who the report adds could be offloaded despite only signing in January, for a place on one of the wings.
Why should Southampton be monitoring the situation?
Well, while Saints have added Mohamed Elyounoussi to their attacking options this summer, many supporters feel they need further reinforcements given they have lost Dusan Tadic and Guido Carrillo, and with the club only scoring 37 goals in their 38 Premier League matches last term as they narrowly avoided the drop.
Someone like Nathan Redmond has so far really struggled to make his mark out wide, and the south coast outfit seem to lack quality and pace out wide in general, and it is something that Mark Hughes, who should offer Jack Stephens to Stoke City in exchange for signing a 26-year-old defender, needs to put right before the deadline.
Tottenham winger Moura would certainly bring both of those things despite struggling to make an impression with his current club himself following his move from Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the year, but 19 goals and 10 assists in 53 appearances for the French side in 2016/17 show exactly what he is capable of, and he would undoubtedly be Southampton’s most exciting player since Sadio Mane.
