da betsul: Rangers’ promotion to the SPFL had the Gers in the Transfer Tavern waxing poetic about their chances in the top tier this season.
da pinnacle: Still, it has been a stuttering start to life amongst Scotland’s elite for Mark Warburton at Ibrox.
The club have made some very good signings, and if they pay off, then the consensus at the Tavern bar is that they are going to be fine.
However, the club have had a lot of bad times and bad signings to go with them and some of the discussion has turned to some of the dismal flops who’ve played for the Gers over the years.
There is a lot of talk of the flops and failed signings and chatter has begun about who are the worst of those players that are considered flops.
There has been a lot of arguing and debating but the landlord has been listening in and come up with FOUR of Rangers’ worst flops that only hardcore fans will remember.
Do you agree with these picks and who do you think are Rangers’ biggest flops? Let us know.
Bilel Mohsni
Bilel Mohsni must be one of the least technically gifted players to ever pull on a Rangers jersey.
Perhaps best remembered for having a fight with both Lee Erwin and Fraser Kerr of Motherwell in his final game for Rangers.
He was also a part of the Gers side that failed to win promotion to the top division, one of the biggest failures in the club’s history.
He did manage to get himself 11 league goals, but his temper and lack of natural skill will ensure that he isn’t remembered for the right reasons.
Francis Jeffers
Francis Jeffers had an incredibly promising start to his career, as he even played for England and infamously notched on his Three Lions debut.
However, his career seemed to be one big downward spiral and he joined Rangers on loan during that time.
Alex McLeish had given the striker another chance to prove his quality after he had been pushed out by Charlton, though he only managed to feature 13 times and couldn’t muster up a single goal in his time at Ibrox.
Francisco Sandaza
Just after Rangers had been relegated to the third division of Scottish football, they signed Francisco Sandaza from SPL side St. Johnstone.
The Rangers supporters in the Tavern at the time expected him to get plenty of goals due to the fact that he had bagged 14 in the top flight the season before.
However, he went on to make 19 appearances, mustering just two goals.
It was later said that he only went to Rangers for the money and that showed in his disinterested performances.
Lionel Letizi
An error-prone goalkeeper won’t normally get many chances, but Lionel Letizi was given quite a few and he wasted all of them.
Somehow the manager at the time, Paul Le Guen, preferred him to Allan McGregor.
A mixture of injuries, Le Guen’s departure and Walter Smith seeing sense, meant that Lionel Letizi only played eight times for Rangers, but that was more than enough time for him to make a collection of costly mistakes.
