Everton are focused on selling players instead of buying them ahead of the January transfer deadline, per The Liverpool Echo.
What’s the word?
The January window closes later this week and, thus far, the club have yet to bring in a single acquisition this month.
Cenk Tosun has joined Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee and the report claims that the Toffees remain focused on thinning their squad.
Both Oumar Niasse and Cuco Martina are said to be available and there is a hope that they can be shifted.
The club are said to be open to bringing in new additions this month, though signings are said to be unlikely at this point.
Indeed, Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino is not said to be a target.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
Most difficult window
Most clubs are finding it remarkably hard to bring in players in January and Everton appear to be no exception.
At the turn of the year, it is rare that players simply become available at the drop of a hat and, if they do, there is a red flag attached given that their current club are willing to cash in.
It seems that the Merseyside club are in something of a holding pattern and the report claims that Director of Football Marcel Brands has outlined their intention to acquire a right-winger but that such a chase could stretch to the summer.
At this point, it feels as though the same goes for most positions in need of strengthening; Toffees supporters will simply have to wait.
Meanwhile, Everton have reportedly made an approach for a midfielder!
