Whilst Tottenham are perfectly capable of taking on the best in the world, as was seen in their recent Champions League clash with Barcelona, they only seem to lose their nerve when it comes to delivering the killer blow.
da bwin： Tottenham have repeatedly threatened to get their hands on some silverware, and whilst they have a side that’s packed with global talent, there have been many calls made to bolster their ranks with some big signings.
Spurs fans were certainly surprised to find that Mauricio Pochettino managed to go all summer without spending on the transfer market. Such a move was treated with caution as many of their rival teams had spent significant amounts of cash in adding talent to their sides. For the first few games, it was felt that the approach was a smart move. But once a few embarrassing results like their defeat against Watford started affecting Tottenham’s title chances, it showed that Mauricio Pochettino would have to get his chequebook out sooner or later.
Already there are plenty of questions about who could be joining the ranks at Tottenham in the winter months. In particular, it’s the Real Madrid star, Marco Asensio, who seems to be most likely to be Tottenham’s next big signing. The Spanish striker would be a hugely attractive prospect alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, and it could easily help Spurs have the best attack in the Premier League.
Despite this, it’s clear that it’s not necessarily scoring goals that is Tottenham’s biggest issue. The side have struggled with consistency in the past few months, and with key Spurs players like Kieran Trippier enduring nasty injuries, it seems that Mauricio Pochettino is having a tough time in getting Tottenham to work together as a whole.
Whilst the skyrocketing costs of their new stadium might not give Pochettino too much money to spend, it’s clear that he will need to invest some cash in talent if they stand any chance of getting that elusive Premier League or Champions League title.
So which players could be best-placed to help Spurs take things up a level? With Mousa Dembele out until January with an ankle injury, then Tottenham might want to snap up the hugely promising young Dutch star, Frenkie De Jong, from Ajax. Whilst Paris Saint Germain have staked their claim to De Jong, recent reports have suggested that Spurs could still be in with a chance.
Such transfers won’t help them in some websites’ predictions for their upcoming game against Burnley, but if Tottenham want to take on the world’s biggest teams, they need to match their spending. But if Spurs want to invest in some promising young talent without blowing their budget, then the Bristol City full-back Lloyd Kelly could also be a good option. Whatever happens, it’s clear that Mauricio Pochettino will have to spend some cash before the season’s over.
