According to The Independent, Manchester United are considering making a January swoop for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
What’s the word?
The France international has endured a mixed time with the Catalan giants, showing glimpses of his enormous potential, but failing to display much consistency – last season, he scored just 14 goals in 42 games across all competitions.
His start to the current campaign has been hampered by a hamstring injury, and there were suggestions earlier this summer that he could used as a makeweight in a potential deal to bring Neymar back to Barcelona.

Now, The Independent claim that United are keen on bringing in reinforcements in the January transfer window, and it has been made known Barcelona would be “willing to do business” over the 22-year-old.
However, the report adds any possible move would likely cost over £100m.
Transformation
He may have hot and cold streaks with his goal contributions, but there can be no denying his under-lying numbers paint a picture of someone who could add some dynamism to United’s attack.
Against West Ham in the Premier League last weekend, the Red Devils were insipid, uninspiring and painfully lethargic. Dembele’s arrival would change all that.
Last year, the Frenchman averaged impressive numbers of 1.3 shots, 1.6 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game in La Liga. When you’re having to play second-fiddle to the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, it is easy to get lost amongst the crowd.
But Dembele has shown he is willing to embrace the responsibility and having arrived in the same transfer window that Neymar left, he is clearly seen as an heir apparent. And according to Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu, he is already better than the Brazilian superstar.
“Dembele’s level is better now than Neymar’s, he’s a much better player than Neymar and he’s already adapted” – Bartomeu, April 2019
If United ever needed a sprinkle of stardust on their performances, then the time is now. A swoop for Dembele in January would certainly bring them that.
