da bet vitoria: James McCarthy is expected to leave Everton this month, so should Celtic re-visit their interest in the tough tackling Irishman?
What’s the word?
da imperador bet: According to Sky Sports, West Brom are one of a number of teams chasing McCarthy, as the Baggies look to secure a loan deal for the 28 year-old.
McCarthy has missed the entirety of this season so far as he recovers from a broken leg sustained last January, and is unlikely to have any future at Everton with Andre Gomes, Idrissa Gueye, Tom Davies and even Morgan Schneiderlin ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.
Given that Brendan Rodgers tried to sign the Irish international back in 2016, should the Bhoys go back in for the Everton outcast?
His £15m price tag scuppered Rodgers’ hopes of a deal in 2016, but with the unfortunate injury and his contract expiring in 18 months that fee will surely be a lot more affordable now.
Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…
Do they need him?
Celtic were outfought and outplayed at Ibrox last weekend, and the biggest area for concern was in midfield, where Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham were completely overrun.
With Brown set to turn 34 at the end of this season and Ntcham showing no signs of recovering last season’s form, a midfield upgrade should be at the top of Rodgers’ January shopping list.
Is he good enough?
While there’s no telling how a player will recover from such a nasty and lengthy injury, it’s no surprise Rodgers has already showed interest in McCarthy, as his combination of calm, controlled passing and absolutely crunching tackling should fit in well in Glasgow.
The 28 year-old has 41 Republic of Ireland caps to his name, and does have experience in Scottish football, racking up over 100 appearances for Hamilton between 2006 and 2009.
He is smart with the ball, works tirelessly off it, and the thought of him partnering Callum McGregor in midfield should have fans extremely excited.
