da dobrowin: Manchester United’s understudy goalkeeper Sergio Romero has warned team-mate David De Gea he’s ready to step in whenever needed – should the Spaniard suffer an injury or bout of poor form.
da esoccer bet: Since signing for the Red Devils in summer 2015, the 29-year-old has been forced to contend with a regular spot on the bench due to De Gea’s superb form.
Indeed, the Spain international is viewed by many as the top shot-stopper in world football and he ranked sixth in the Premier League’s saves chart last season – registering 76 in 34 top flight appearances.
But Romero is a talented goalkeeper in his own right; he’s picked up a whopping 81 caps for Argentina and represented them in the 2014 World Cup final – which they eventually lost to Germany.
Due to the fantastic coaching staff at Old Trafford, the South American has declared that he’s always ready to step in and perform No.1 duties, should De Gea fall victim to injury or be dropped by manager Jose Mourinho.
Romero told the club’s official website; “With myself you could see [when I’ve played] that I’d been training hard and waiting for my chance to play and when that did happen, I was 100 per cent ready. As I said, I reckon a great job is being done with our training and that can only be a good thing.
“You work hard all week in order to play at the weekend, and so as the game approaches you will be 100 per cent ready and available for the manager and the group of your team-mates. You aim to show them that you are all prepared and ready to play.”
Although Romero is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, he’s represented United in the League Cup and Europa League – keeping one clean sheet in the process.
