Here’s what he said in full, as per Estadio Deportivo (quoted by Daily Mail):
“Yes they will exercise (the option) because they are not taxed as much as if they have to exercise it in June, when the purchase becomes mandatory.
“They may also have to exercise the mandatory [clause]. We understand that they will exercise it, but if not [we will be] delighted with the player [returning].”
Upon seeing his words, many Spurs fans were actually pretty happy with that verdict, saying that Lo Celso could still turn into a good player for them.
But there are also some fans that don’t really seem convinced, while some are also not sure whether Jose Mourinho will be keen on getting this deal over the line.
No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?
So far, Lo Celso has only tallied 322 minutes across 11 games in all competitions and still doesn’t have a clear spot in the team. For that reason, some of the supporters even questioned the point of signing him permanently and don’t really see the Argentine thriving at Spurs.
Of course, with such low game time, the 23-year-old midfielder has never really got the chance to shine and show his worth.
We’ll have to wait and see what Mourinho thinks of the whole situation.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid and Liverpool might go head to head for a player that fits both of their ideologies…
